With Wimbledon finished for another year lets take a look back through the 2015 championships.
Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one seed, that already has 8 grand slam titles to his name, beat Roger Federer in the final in the fourth set. The Serbian professional has already won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, and won the Australian open at the beginning of the year.
Roger Federer, who has an impressive 17 grand slam titles behind him and has won Wimbledon 7 times previous, just could not withstand the pure determination of Djokovic.
Andy Murray, ranked 3rd in the world, who played Federer in the semi-finals, ended Britain’s 77 year wait for a British champion to win Wimbledon in 2013.
Rafael Nadal was beaten by French professional Dustin Brown in the second round after 4 tense sets. He is ranked 10th in the world and has previously won Wimbledon twice before. He is well known for his incredible performance on clay courts at Roland Garros, wining 9 times in the last 11 years. Dustin Brown, ranked 80th reached the third round of Wimbledon this year, before being knocked out of the competition by Viktor Troicki.
For the ladies side, Serena Williams took the Wimbledon title again for the 6th time in her career. The United States born professional is the worlds best women’s player and has won countless grand slams titles. Garbine Muguruza, a 21 year old Spaniard, ranked 9th in the world, was this year’s runner up as she took on Williams in the final. With the result being 6-4 6-4 she showed pure grit and strength.
Heather Watson, born in Guernsey, made it to the third round of Wimbledon, before being beaten by Serena in the third set. She has previously made it to the third round of Wimbledon in 2012 and had a huge support network behind her.
The next Grand Slam is the US Open starting at the end of August.
